• The idea for a Father's Day celebration originated separately on both sides of the country. In 1908 in Fairmont, West Virginia and in 1909 in Spokane, Washington.
• The idea of a National Holiday honoring Fathers was not met with the same enthusiasm as Mother's Day. Many newspapers poked fun at the thought of Father's Day!
• In the 1930's the Associated Men's Wear Retailers formed a national committee in New York to turn the new holiday into a commercial event.
• In most countries around the world Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
• Americans are expected to spend about $11 billion on dear old dad, $7 billion less than was spent on mom.
