• Mencia has received the most attention in Galicia, Spain where is produced light, relatively thin red wines. But now careful cultivation and vineyard management is producing bigger wines.
• There is some confusion with the name of the grape. A local strain of Cabernet Franc which was introduced into Galicia in the 19th century also goes by the name Mencia.
